Gosh but I love that red floor! Your home is beautiful!! I myself am a fan of red oxide coloured athangudi tiles , my house has the terribly boring regular tiles though.

My God, what a nightmare! But the red oxide and your home looks fabulous. Kudos to your unrelenting passion for the nostalgic RO. You brought back memories of my grandparents home in Kerala. Yep, how I loved to roll on the red floor with my cousins.... ahhh.

Thank you Sangeetha. Yes "me rolling on red floor at random places" is something Udit lives in mortal fear of. :-)

The red floor reminds me of my home in Kolkata. I wish I could explain how much I miss it. This was a heartening read!

Love your entire decor but red floor is my favourite too- it often takes me back to Cuttack- my papa’s place. The red reminds me of Barabati stadium to Cuttack high court to Revenshaw college where I spent few weeks before joining OUAT. My another weakness is Warli painting and your red floor looks like a canvas for warli to me … thanks for sharing the story- it shows love can move mountains

Your red floor, and your home are beautiful!! I had some idea but did not know the patience, $$weat and tears that went into building the floor... Kudos!

Loved reading this! I'm amazed you found masons who still do this work. We live in an old house and the red oxide is limited to the dining room. The rest of the house has red tiles. Completely relate to your lal keeda.

Thank you ! Given so many of us are RO fans, we should form a ROFC —Red Oxide Fan Club. And share resources, contacts- I certainly need a few. :-)

Savvy, you've done a fabulous job with your house! I love it- even if I've only seen it in pictures :/ Kabhi dil karey toh Patna ki aur kahaniyan likhna - it takes me back to my own childhood, at my Nani's place. Also, that story on Afghanistan needs to come soon too!
